Vision

SOMEWHERE will be a new type of filmed musical: a grounded high-drama story that takes its stakes seriously, with songs bringing the story forward as much as the dialogue. The roots of this type of storytelling have been laid by NBC shows like SMASH and RISE, the film musicals of Jacques Demy, and the recent Broadway hits HADES TOWN, HAMILTON, and F.O.B. This short will give audiences a taste of the storytelling, while delivering the concept of the show.

With few exceptions, these characters will sing their parts while actively trying to achieve their goals. The camera will move in a dance with Cameron and Elena, and our edit will pick up where we left off each time we return to their intersecting stories. The effect of this will be a feeling of two parallel seekers, a Romeo & Juliet—building tension—until their intentions become known—driving at the meaning and desire these characters have through the lyrics.
